Nowadays, many high-rise buildings are built as a result of growing population and developing technology. There are several mechanical and electrical systems in these buildings such as CCTV, ventilation, fire alarm systems etc. Integration of these systems plays an important role in emergency cases such as fire, earthquake etc.

In case of fire, electrical and mechanical systems that are assigned in emergency situations should be monitored and controlled by fire detection systems. Especially, smoke control systems should be managed by fire alarm systems when there is a fire in the building.

Contrary to popular belief, most of the casualties in fire events result from inhalation of smoke, not burning by flames. The poisonous fire smoke affects people trapped in the building negatively. Therefore, evacuation of smoke in case of fire plays an important role in maintaining safety of life and property.

Ventilation system in the building should be managed effectively in order to minimize casualties in case of fire. People in the building will not be harmed if smoke in fire zone is evacuated successfully. In case of fire, fire alarm system’s input devices detect the location of fire in the building. The input device can be smoke detector, heat detector or manual call point. Then, smoke is evacuated by exhaust channels of ventilation systems in fire zone in the scope of fire scenarios.

Fire scenarios depend on height of building, population density, location and function of electrical and mechanical systems. An example for ventilation systems and smoke control could be as follows:

In normal case, fresh air and exhaust channels are opened, smoke exhaust and pressurization channels are closed. In case of fire, fresh air channels in fire zone is closed. Thereby oxygen can not enter the fire zone and feed the fire. Also exhaust channels and smoke exhaust channels in fire zone are opened so that smoke in fire zone can exit the area. Pressurization channels are opened for evacuation of people in the building from stairs.

The actions for smoke control stated above can be executed by smoke damper module. As Mavili Elektronik, we developed Maxlogic Intelligent Addressable Smoke Damper Module with our experience more than 30 years.

Smoke damper module gets one address in intelligent addressable fire detection systems. It can control smoke damper motors and monitor position switches. Also dampers can be opened and closed remotely by remote control inputs of smoke damper module. Output line of smoke damper module, remote control input and monitoring input are supervised. In other words, they can be monitored for open and short circuit faults.

Intelligent addressable smoke damper module’s opening and closing times can be adjusted. (30, 60, 120, 240 seconds) Additionally, damper’s position monitoring inputs can be regulated as Active/Passive. Also delays can be set to monitoring inputs.

To conclude, smoke control in the building is crucial for maintaining life and property safety during fire. Maxlogic intelligent addressable smoke damper module can manage fire scenarios for smoke control such as evacuation of smoke in fire zone, pressurization of stairs etc.
